Playtime

In his book Flow, Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi wrote the following

“The popular assumption is that no skills are involved in enjoying free time, and that anybody can do it. Yet the evidence suggests the opposite: free time is more difficult to enjoy than work. Having leisure at one’s disposal does not improve the quality of life unless one knows how to use it effectively, and it is by no means something one learns automatically”

I'm pretty sure that as children we knew exactly what to do with our free time...play! Play is part of our human nature and not just for kids but when did you last play? Play is important to our vitality, energy and overall wellbeing.

So what are the key features of play?

“It is done for its own sake, there is no goal.
We voluntarily engage in it.
It is fun and feels good. We lose track of time.
When fully engaged we become less self - conscious.
There is no right way to play.
When you do it, you want to do more of it! ”

If we use these features then there are endless possibilities and activities we might engage in. Whatever it is, if you are in the moment, losing track of time and enjoying yourself then you are creating a healthier and happier life for yourself.

How could you create more play in your life?

Why not grab a pal or come yourself and join us for some time outside in nature with a supportive group of women. We will enjoy some time and space to think and move.
